Today is the shop’s one month anniversary! We’d like to share some interesting info with you:
# 1. The fastest selling book this month was Khyentse Rinpoche’s ‘What makes you not a Buddhist’. We didn’t have many copies of Thich Nhat Hanh’s ‘Old Path White Clouds’ but they sold out pretty fast too!
# 2. Some books remained on the shelves for a long time, but once sold there were quite a number of readers requesting for them. Fatima Bhutto’s ‘Songs of Blood and Sword’ was a popular request.
# 3. Little boys run towards any item that has Ben 10 on them – books, pencil bags, exam boards… some parents can’t do anything but buy them what they want, while others brave as they are, tempt the children with something more exciting (“I’ll buy you a Ben 10 watch! How about that!!! Isn’t it better than that exam board?…”) and leave with books like Know Your Alphabets or Numbers and Puzzles (to do with alphabets, numbers or animals)… Children also seem to get attracted to books of characters they’ve seen on television – Barney, Spongebob, Sesame Street, Scooby doo, Pooh…
# 4. Stieg Larsson’s Millenium trilogy is picking up as a popular request. We’ve run out of ‘The girl with the dragon tattoo’ but they’ll be arriving soon.
# 5. Every customer has been extra encouraging, interesting and kind! Whoever said that readers were hard to come by in Bhutan was quite wrong!
# 6. Nothing to do with books… but Suzy and Toto were potty trained this past month!!! 🙂
Most of the people you see hanging around the shop quite regularly (jobless… sigh! 😀 not really) are the guys who’ve helped to make the shop look the way it does today! 🙂 They’ve carried boxes and more boxes, they’ve been drenched in pink, yellow, blue, white paint, gotten down on their fours to remove dots of paint, and well… a lot more…
